The Next BIG Show

Happy Monday! I got up at 2:30 AM this morning after 3.5 hours of sleep for a 3:30 AM work call. Why? Because the show I’m working today starts rehearsals at 7:00 AM and they needed to set up a whole lot of A/V equipment beforehand.  @_@

Suffice it to say, I’m tired. When I clock out later this afternoon, I’ll probably go straight home – to sleep. But sleep deprivation cannot suppress my enthusiasm for the latest and greatest Hideo news: we’re tentatively looking at doing the next full-scale show in November at the Christopher Cohan Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo, California!

It would be a return home of sorts for myself and the several other Hideo-ites who are Cal Poly alumni. Hideo‘s roots trace back to my Junior year, when I started working as a stage manager at the PAC and came up with the idea of doing a “theatrical concert” in the Cohan Center, one of the most phenomenal venues to work at/with and perform in.

The PAC is located on the Cal Poly campus and is the result of a partnership between the University, the City of San Luis Obispo, and the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center. Open since September of 1996, the PAC is comprised of a 1,289-seat concert hall, a 180-seat classroom, a multi-purpose “Pavilion” that can be set up in a variety of ways for up to 400 people, and the 498-seat Alex & Faye Spanos Theatre that was already part of the campus.

After the October premiere, we received lots of requests to bring the show south to Los Angeles. We can’t make it all the way down just yet, but San Luis Obispo puts us squarely between our home base and the City of Angels – a roughly 3.5 hour drive from the Bay Area and 4 from LA.

There are still many details to work out – like finding a new illustrator/animator and how much it will cost – but the dates we wanted are available, so it’s just a matter of time and lots of emails to sort out the details. Let’s get to work!

OOoooo… it’s been a while since I’ve been back to SLO (not since I graduated in ’05). Perhaps it’s time to take a trip back down there 🙂

I didn’t realize we were in the midst of more Cal Poly alumni! I graduated in ’06 and have been back for the occasional open house. There have been a LOT of changes on the campus. What was your major, Jonathan?

My major was Biochemistry. Nothing artsy… but I did take a lot of music classes for my GE courses. I swear I’ve seen Chris on campus before… but maybe I was imagining things.

I heard they tore down the old spider building! (Building… 52? the one with all the freaking arms and you got lost trying to find the labs… lol). It’d be nice to go down and check out all the new changes 🙂

I think after the show, we should all go downtown and have a drink. Plenty of bars to choose from! 🙂
