The Future of Music, for both You and Hideo

Over the last month, the United States has been fortunate enough to be graced with two new services that look to change how we listen to and interact with music. I’m pleased to say both are great strides in the development of digital music services and, cooperatively, can potentially give major services like iTunes and Amazon a run for their money…and open up some new opportunities for Team Hideo.

Test Subjects Needed

A couple weeks ago, I came across the website testsubjectsneeded.com. After taking a psychological examination for “sensory based research”, I was prompted with the offer to sign up for the project. Despite the secrecy of the website and modern day issues with private data, I gave them all my information with no hesitation. Who in their right mind would do such a thing? Me, obviously. Why? Because I’m playing a game.

The Swarmatron: The Joys of Droning

I’m a big fan of sound design and unique instrumentation, and I’m always on the lookout for new ways of creating and manipulating sound. I reveled in the chance to create an ambient introduction for our version of ICO’s “You Were There”, and I’ve performed using an iPad and a Rock Band 3 keyboard. I keep a watchful eye out for new instruments on the cheap on Craigslist and eBay, but there’s one thing I know won’t be popping up on either of those sites any time soon due to its newfound popularity: the Swarmatron.
