I don’t know about you, but I think it’s a pretty awesome time right now. I’m really stoked about a lot of different things, and I just have to share them. This blog post might come off a little scatterbrained (mostly because I’m pretty distracted while writing it), but hear me out!
Events: HIDEO IN TEN DAYS. Yes, I’m tooting our own horn, but come on! I’m excited. We’re excited. We have photos and videos that are capturing mere fragments of awesomeness. Look out for more in the coming days.
Gaming: I’ve hinted in previous posts that I’m going to be severely distracted, and the big reason why came out yesterday: Battlefield 3. I’ve never attended a midnight release for a game, and this was the first one to do it for me. Why? Spending 24 hours with the game, it is AMAZING. I don’t need to get into the details; you can just read all the stellar reviews for that. However, this game DEMANDS to be played on a solid surround sound system. Coming from an audio background, everything sounds fantastic. I cranked up my receiver yesterday and it was a warzone in my living room. Your subwoofer WILL get a workout. Stand next to a tank that’s about to explode (better yet, be in one) and you’ll see what I mean.
Besides Battlefield 3, look at what’s coming out in the next few weeks: Skyrim. Uncharted 3. Modern Warfare 3. Assassin’s Creed Revelations. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. And many more. It’s a great time to be a gamer (and, consequently, a bad time for your wallet).
TV: The Walking Dead. That’s all I pretty much have to say. The most anticipated show on television came back last week, and it came back with a bang (also, literally, if you know what I mean). And what’s better than last season? Getting twice the number of episodes this time around, meaning we can prolong our zombie addiction that much more. Here’s hoping we see more exciting set pieces from the graphic novels make their way into the narrative this season.
Film: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. You can bet I’ll be first in line for it. Not only do we have a behind the scenes blog (that updates daily) with some exclusive and beautiful photos and videos directly from the set, but there’s also a viral campaign tied in with it that’s currently ramping up with some sweet swag involved for those looking to get onboard (hint: put each line on the poster above separately into your browser). I’m a big David Fincher fan, and I’m an even bigger Trent Reznor fan, so my anticipation for this film is through the roof.
Music: “Ahk-toong Bay-bi”. Typically, tribute albums for bands/artists don’t pack a punch. Most of the ones I’ve seen feature lesser-known bands in an effort to promote themselves (not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s hard to get excited for, especially if it’s for a band you like) and are independent releases not supported by the band in tribute. However, leave it to a music magazine (Q Magazine, specifically) of all things to put together one of the most solid tribute albums with the approval of the artists themselves, celebrating U2’s Achtung Baby. Look at some of these names: Nine Inch Nails. Depeche Mode. The Killers. Jack White. Damien Rice. The return of Garbage (hello, 90’s!). On one album. Listen to the full songs of the aforementioned artists and more right here.
Of course, this is all my opinion and your tastes may vary, but I personally think it’s impossible to be bored right now, as well as for the next two months. Beyond that, there’s even more awesome stuff coming in 2012 (Mass Effect 3?). What are you excited about?
