As Blair mentioned earlier this week, work on Hideo is pushing forward on all fronts, and she highlighted some of the visual work in her post. I wanted to focus a bit on how our show’s musical aspect is going.
Just this past weekend, we had some great rehearsals and I’m getting very excited about the ‘concert’ portion of our hybrid show known as Hideo.
This year, we’re moving forward with a combination of Hideo veterans and some new blood, from both the bay area and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. With the help of Mary Stocker, these musicians are being molded into an anime- and video game music-performing machine.
After just a few rehearsals, I already know that the music in this year’s show is going to be better than ever. I’ll try to get some behind the scenes rehearsal audio posted soon so you guys can hear what I’m talking about.
I have also spent some time transcribing and arranging new pieces (that means even more music this year) as well as changing up some of our existing arrangements. With the help of Cal Poly professor Andy McMahon, this year we have been able to find a fantastic and much larger group of brass players comprised of some very talented Cal Poly students. This has allowed me to change up the Red Wings and Epic Battle arrangements to utilize what I like to call a “wall of brass” sound.
Just be prepared if you (wisely) purchase front row seats.
I just love the “Goodnight Julia” song. It is so beautiful and touches my soul. 🙂
