If you head over to the characters page, you’ll notice a new look. We have all new character concepts, courtesy of our new projection illustrator, Dan Howard!
Dan hails from Las Vegas, but we met at this year’s FanimeCon in Artist’s Alley. I was scouting for Hideo‘s next projection illustrator and came across Dan’s table. His work—gorgeous. His interest in doing a ton of original images to animate live performances of anime and video game music—”when do I start?” Dan is already hard at work developing the art for the Nov. 5 show; we have a lot to do before November! I’ll post sneak-peeks as we go. You can check out more of his awesome work at www.miasautoandbody.com.
“But Blair, the title says illustrator[s]. Was that just a typo?” Actually, no! Hideo has a total of three – three! – illustrators this year. In addition to Dan on projections, I’m pleased to welcome Christine Liao and Jessica Fong to the team. Christine and Jessica will be designing two new limited-edition Hideo posters in addition to… well, I’ll let Schyler tell you about their other project on Friday. Hint: it’s super cool and exciting!! 😉
I met Christine at FanimeCon as well. Turns out she saw Hideo‘s premiere performance in Berkeley last year! Going into her second year at UC Berkeley, Christine has a talent for the digital brush:

Jessica responded to an email the Cal Poly Art and Design Department sent out on my behalf asking for illustrators. A fellow Cal Poly peep, Jessica is in the Bay Area for the summer, but will also be going into her second year in September. Her preferred materials – traditional paper and ink:

I don’t know about you, but I’m super excited to see what these three come up with! And remember, be sure to check out Schyler’s post on Friday to learn about Christine and Jessica’s secret (at least until Friday) project.
