I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for this coming Sunday. Why? Because it will be Hideo‘s first performance for 2011!!
We’ll be part of the music lineup for Animation on Display: “a weekend celebration of Japanese animation, video games, recent American cartoons, and their related interests”. The convention started back in 2003 at Santa Clara University and moved to San Francisco as it became more popular and outgrew its university home.
Getting ready for AOD was a bit of a challenge, however. The original show called for roughly a 40′ x 22′ stage to house approximately 30 performers; the stage available at Hotel Kabuki, the convention’s venue, is only 18′ x 12′. The original show was 90 minutes with 4 days of setup and several hours of strike (theater lingo for teardown); the AOD program only allows one hour total for setup, performance, and strike.
Those are HUGE differences, but nothing Team Hideo couldn’t handle. We picked 4 music pieces (the top 3 from the original show and one new piece), wrote a new script, and started rehearsals. We have one final rehearsal this week, but otherwise we’re prepped and ready to go!
We want to see a full house on Sunday; the events hall seats 450 people, so mark your calendars and stop in to check out all the awesome convention events – and Hideo, of course! The show is free with your paid convention registration. See you there!
